These are the original (and we firmly believe THE BEST) Consult cables. We did the original design which was then posted on the web. Since then there have been various tweaks to ensure reliability and compatibility with all vehicles. We are still actively involved with Nissan diagnostics and tuning so we are well placed to provide support for our customers. The cables connect between the serial/USB port of a laptop and the Consult Port of Nissan vehicles. There's a small (60x35x28mm) interface box in the cable which converts the data. We sell the cables with DataScan software which allows various diagnostic functions to be accessed. See below for details.
The interfaces have been tested on a list of vehicles which is always growing. As a rule, if your car has the grey Consult There is a list of vehicles that are known to work with our system here. After 2000 Nissan started going to Consult II. Many of them still use the same consult connector but the protocol is different. We're working on this one.
The boards are quality double-sided, through-hole-plated for maximum reliability. SMD technology is used to keep the size down. The units are designed, built and tested in Australia by qualified, experienced personel with many years of experience. Each Interface is tested on a Nissan ECU before posting so you can be sure it will fire up when plugged in. What software will work with the interface? There have now been various programs written that will work with the interface but the one we sell is Nissan DataScan. This was written by Tomasz Kolodziejczyk and is now a mature application which has been tested on vehicles all over the world. The software is downloaded from Tom once your details are registered - so you always get the latest available version. Prices at bottom of page. It includes the following features:
![]() Tom has now put up a page with some more information on the latest version of DataScan here. Is there any software available for Mac users?Yes! Eric has written a Mac OS X application which he has been perfecting for quite awhile. Looks good too! Check it out here : http://members.cox.net/~epooch/consultan/ What laptops will the DataScan software work with? Most of our testing has been carried out on a P233 machine with 32Mb of RAM running WIN98SE although this should be considered an absolute minimum. It also works with Win2K/WinXP/Vista on a more capable laptop. Update: One user has reported that he's running it successfully on a P166 laptop (64Mb RAM) under Win95! I've just bought a new laptop and it only has USB - no serial. What now?We sell USB versions of our cables, but if you already have a serial cable then you can try using a USB > serial adaptor. Lots of people have used USB > Serial converters successfully. But some definitely work better than others. There's some information here. We do not sell the adaptors - they can be bought at most electronics/computer shops. Do I need special drivers for the USB Consult Cable? Most definitely. Do NOT try to use a generic driver. If you have done this by mistake then please make sure you remove all traces of the generic driver before installing the correct ones. Drivers and install guide here. Using a consult interface and DataScan software allows you to download the maps from your ECU. If you've successfully done this and you'd like to share your maps with the SR community we've started a new SR20 Binaries section.
* As of 10MAY07 DataScan software pricing was fixed at $AU49 for all re-sellers.
Ordering/shipping details here. Once you've ordered, your details will be registered and you'll be sent instructions on how to download/activate the software. This is all done online - it is not necessary to send out CD's etc.
